Axe Bat

One of the most unique bat manufacturers for baseball and softball lovers is Axe Bat. While the names of other bat companies don't give you a great idea of what their product will look like, Axe Bat is the complete opposite. Their bats appear exactly as they would seem, considering the brand's name. Anyone who has ever swung an axe before will say that they odd-shaped handle at the end helps them maintain solid control of the axe and provides a comfortable area to grip. With that in mind, the Axe Bat was created. AXE™ Bats is a registered trademark of Baden Sports, Inc.

Axe Bats are made for use in baseball, fastpitch and slowpitch softball leagues. The AXE wood chopping axe handle's knob, design provides an ergonomic feel that is more comfortable than traditional round baseball bat and softball bat knobs. Of course, with the axe handle, a lot of the same questions are normally asked, and most importantly, "Are these bats BBCOR compliant? Yes." As with most bats, during the initial break-in period, softball players and baseball players are told to rotate the bat to prevent the bats from denting too soon. With the axe handle, this isn't possible, but their response to that is simple. Since they know where you are going to be making contact on the bat each time, they don't have to worry about providing you with a massive sweet spot throughout the entire barrel. Axe Bat worked on their Engineered Hitting Zone to provide a single sweet spot on the lone hitting area of the bat. A recent review of Axe bats, in Wired, suggested: "The Axe Bat is more than a Frankenstein-style meshing of an axe handle and a baseball bat barrel. The key lies in the bat’s final few inches near the handle. That’s where the design gracefully curves from the standard round shape to a asymmetrical oval before tapering to an angled knob at the end." [The article references UCLA's Dr. Vijay Gupta's Axe bats study.]

Axe Bats are made in wood, as well as metal with alloy and composite. The composite Axe Bat uses their Plus-Plus technology which gives additional carbon fiber layers to enhance its durability and increase the pop. In their alloy models, they use military grade alloy to improve the strength to weight ratio. They add more weight to the area where contact will be made while removing unneeded weight from other areas of the bat. The one thing about these bats is as a left handed swinger, right handers won't be able to use the same bat. The opposite sides of these bats are not made to be swung and used. This may lead to the bat breaking and will lead to miss-hits or poor contact.
