Choosing Your 2027 Easton Ghost OG Drop: -11, -10, -9, or -8

Choosing Your 2027 Easton Ghost OG Drop: -11, -10, -9, or -8

The 2027 Easton Ghost OG comes in four drops — -11, -10, -9, and -8 — and they're not interchangeable. Pick the right one and the bat feels like it was made for your swing. Pick the wrong one and you'll fight it every at-bat. Here's how to think through the choice without overcomplicating it.

First, the math: what "drop" actually means

A bat's "drop" is the difference between its length (in inches) and its weight (in ounces).

  • A 34" / 24 oz bat is a -10
  • A 33" / 24 oz bat is a -9
  • A 34" / 26 oz bat is a -8

The smaller the drop number (closer to zero), the heavier the bat is for its length. A -8 is heavier than a -10 of the same length. That's the whole rule.

For reference, here's the full 2027 Ghost OG availability:

Drop Lengths offered Weights Shop
-11 29"–33" 18–22 oz EFP7GHOG11
-10 30"–34" 20–24 oz EFP7GHOG10
-9 32"–34" 23–25 oz EFP7GHOG9
-8 33"–34" 25–26 oz EFP7GHOG8

Across every drop, the 2027 Ghost OG carries a balanced swing weight, 2 1/4" barrel, two-piece composite construction, and the patented Double Barrel build.

-11: lightest swing weight, fastest bat speed

The -11 is the lightest drop in the lineup. For a given length, it gives you the quickest bat speed and the easiest barrel control. Easton offers it in 29" through 33", which is also why Easton stocks it in the shortest lengths of any drop — it's the drop most often used by younger hitters and players still building strength.

That said, "lightest" doesn't only mean "for younger hitters." A 33"/22 oz Ghost OG -11 is a real bat for a real hitter who wants maximum plate coverage and bat speed without the extra barrel mass.

Choose -11 if: you prioritize bat speed and contact rate over raw mass, you're still building strength, or you simply prefer the lightest swing the Ghost OG offers at your length. Shop the -11.

-10: the most popular fastpitch drop

The -10 is the most common drop in fastpitch and the meatiest part of the Ghost OG lineup (Easton offers it in five lengths, 30"–34"). It splits the difference between bat speed and barrel mass and is the default for the majority of travel ball and high school hitters.

If you don't have a strong reason to go lighter or heavier, the -10 is the safe and correct starting point.

Choose -10 if: you want the standard fastpitch feel, you're playing travel ball or high school, or you don't have a specific reason to deviate from the most common drop. Shop the -10.

-9: more mass without giving up bat speed

The -9 carries a touch more barrel weight than a -10 at the same length. Easton offers it in 32"–34" only — they don't make a short -9, which tells you who it's meant for: stronger hitters who want more mass behind the ball but aren't ready to drop all the way to a -8.

A 33"/24 oz Ghost OG -9 is a meaningful step up in barrel feel from a 33"/23 oz -10. Same length, one extra ounce in the barrel.

Choose -9 if: you've outgrown a -10 in terms of strength and want a touch more mass, you want more barrel feel without sacrificing too much bat speed, or you sit between travel ball and high school in terms of strength. Shop the -9.

-8: heaviest swing, most exit velocity potential

The -8 is the heaviest drop in the Ghost OG lineup. Easton only offers it in 33" and 34" — there's no short -8, because nobody who needs the lightest bat possible is choosing a -8.

The trade-off is straightforward: more mass behind the ball at contact, slower swing for the same hitter. If you can swing it without losing bat speed, you'll get more exit velocity off the bat. If you can't, you'll be late on pitches.

Choose -8 if: you're a stronger hitter (typically high school or college level), you've tested it and don't lose bat speed compared to a -9, or you want the heaviest swing weight the Ghost OG offers. Shop the -8.

How to actually pick

The honest version of this:

  1. Start with what you swing now. If you have a bat that fits, look at its drop and length first. Don't move more than one drop or one length at a time.
  2. Match length to your size. A general guideline: line the bat up next to your hip — if the knob sits at your hip and the end cap reaches your fingertips with your arm relaxed at your side, the length is in the ballpark. Younger hitters: shorter. Taller hitters: longer.
  3. Match drop to your strength. If you can swing your current bat through the zone without slowing down in the second half of your swing, you can probably handle a heavier drop. If you're late on pitches, go lighter.
  4. When in doubt, go -10. It's the most popular fastpitch drop for a reason. Easton offers the Ghost OG -10 in five lengths from 30" to 34", so there's a fit for almost any hitter.

Bottom line

Every 2027 Ghost OG carries the same patented Double Barrel pop, the same Sonic Comp composite, and the same balanced two-piece feel. The drop just changes how much mass you're swinging. Pick the one that lets you swing your hardest cut without slowing down — that's the right bat.
