USSSA Youth Big Barrel Bats, also known as Travel Ball Bats or Senior Youth Bats, are baseball bats with a "big barrel;" meaning these USSSA-Approved Bats have either a 2 5/8 inch or 2 3/4 inch diameter barrel. Depending on the rules of your baseball organization, Big Barrel Bats ffor kids are typically used between the ages of 6 years old and 13 years old. By far the most popular length to weight ratio is Minus 10 Ounces, but Minus 9 and Minus 5 bats are popular as well, depending on the strength, size, and skill level of the batter.
A properly selected Youth Big Barrel Baseball Bat is important in the development of your hitting technique as well as swing speed. Make sure that the bat you select is ideal for your height and body weight by checking out our Baseball Bat Size Chart.
Most big barrel bats have a length to weight ratio between minus 5 ounces and minus 12 ounces. The higher the number, the lighter your bat will be. Youth big barrel bats with a drop weight of -12 can be swung more easily and comfortably compared to an -8 bat, which is built with bigger, stronger kids in mind.
Begining in 2018, all youth bats with a big barrel will be required to have the USA Bat Standard Stamp on them in order to be legal for play in Little League, Pony Baseball League, Babe Ruth Baseball League, Cal Ripken youth baseball leagues. The similarly named, but materially different USSSA (AKA "UTRIP") bat standard will remain unchanged.
